Bush Refuses to Face Reality of Failed Foreign Policy and Iraq; Continues to Confuse and Mislead Americans, Says Democratic National Security Advisor

Washington, DC September 22, 2004 -- Rand Beers, National Security Advisor for the Kerry-Edwards Campaign, says that President Bush is refusing to face reality and the failure of his failed foreign policies and in Iraq. In response to President Bush's latest assertion that he did the right thing in leading the U.S. to war with Iraq, Beers issued the following statement:

"Faced with the dire consequences of his wrong choices in Iraq, George W. Bush continues to mislead the American people and pose false choices rather than face the reality of his failed policies. It is not a choice between dictatorship and democracy in Iraq. It is a choice between fighting and winning the war against Al Qaeda or dangerously diverting U.S. resources and attention to Iraq, which posed no imminent threat to the U.S. As a consequence of President Bush's failed Iraq policy, our military is overextended, our alliances have been weakened, Iraq is now a magnet for terrorists which it never was before, Osama bin Laden is still at large, and Al Qaeda continues to recruit freely and attack us around the world."

"President Bush's wrong choices have weakened U.S. national security and made America less safe. Worse still, President Bush says he would happily do the same thing all over again, exactly the same way. Is he really serious?"
